The Picton Pirates are pleased to announce the signing of Mathieu Petrut, a 2008-born defenseman from Kingston, Ontario, ahead of the upcoming season.
Petrut spent last season patrolling the blue line for the AAA Kingston Jr. Gaels, where he stood out as a steady and intelligent presence on the back end. A smooth-skating defender with excellent vision and poise, Mathieu is known for his ability to make crisp, effective first passes and break plays out with control and confidence. Defensively, he brings a physical edge—making contact at every opportunity—and plays with a level of detail and maturity well beyond his age.
“Mathieu is a complete defenseman,” said Jamie Lane, Head Coach | General Manager of the Picton Pirates. “He sees the ice extremely well, defends with purpose, and transitions the puck efficiently. He’s a competitor with a strong foundation and a lot of upside.”
